Do you know where you’re going and can you keep going?
We’ve shared some road together, you and I, over the last few weeks.
First, there were the topics of recalculating and choosing to look forward and focus on what’s growing, rather than what’s behind and is no longer serving you. We’ve also tackled the subject of staying fully present in the moment so you can savor and make the most of each season, whether in your life or business.
So now I’ll ask you, do you know which road you’re on and where you are headed or are you stumbling along, hoping you’ll figure out a destination at some point? And if that’s the case, is that really a bad thing?
Any journey will have twists and turns. That’s normal. Sometimes, in fact, most of the time, the question isn’t, “Do you know where you’re going?”, it’s, “Are you flexible and determined enough to keep going?”
If you’re at one of those places in life where you’re wondering whether or not that answer is yes, let me encourage you.
You can keep going if you remember these three “P’s” on your journey:
You have a plan – if you are certain that you are on a road you want to be on and are traveling it with intention, then by all means, stay on it. If you don’t like your direction, it’s time to pull over and recalculate. Remember, you’re not lost, you’re recalculating, and that is most definitely a plan.
Your perception may need to change – you may not be in the best season, and it might be easier to focus on what is being taken away or lost. Remember, however, there are plenty of other things that are being birthed or even moving into full bloom right this minute. Focus on that and your road will start to give you joy again.
You are persevering – sometimes your journey is all about buckling up and sticking to the road you’re on. It may not be pretty, it may not be easy, and it may be lonely or scary or boring. If you’ve ever driven any distance of significant length, you know what I’m talking about. At some point, you just want to get off the road. Keep going though because that road is going to get you exactly where you want to be, and deep down, you know that. Persevere!
Ultimately, life is about creating a synergy and harmony between the journey and the destination. You need both. The destination keeps you focused and committed, while the journey provides opportunities for growth through uncertainty.
May you have roads that provide you a healthy dose of all those things so you are the person you always wanted to be at the end.
Where does the road take you?
