Hot fun in the summer time! This phrase has taken on a whole new meaning now that I’m back living in the Midwest. Summer here is a season, unlike Florida where summer is a twelve month long way of life. Living in Ohio, where the summer days are long but the season is short, has given me a new “carpe diem” kind of mentality. Why?
Because this is only a season, and I want to be fully present for every minute of it.
Living intentionally in this summer season means I’m taking advantage of the good weather today because it will soon be a different kind of climate. I have a focus and determination to say “yes” to opportunities that are available now because I know they won’t be around when the weather changes. And because I’m really, really not excited about the coming winter, I’ve become a bit of a mind ninja, backing off my usual addiction of looking into the future so I can stay fully present in this season. I don’t want to miss one single moment of warmth and sunshine and doing things that can be done today so I’m committed to living in the moment.
For an “Are we there yet?” kind of gal, this has been nothing short of revolutionary for me.
How about you? What about the road you’re on right now or the season you’re in? Are you so focused on the future or getting to the next season that you’re denying yourself the blessings and healing properties of your current circumstances and situation? What if most of what you need for the future is coming at you in spades on this particular part of the path? Can you fully embrace the experience of now or are you looking ahead to the grittier days of having to stack the firewood and de-ice the car?Even if you don't know the reason, you can still embrace your season. Your business and the people you serve, want you and need you to stay in the moment, and in case you don’t know this, that’s where all your power is anyway. This season, this road, this moment, is where you can do your best work. It’s not in the future or another season, although there are great things for you to accomplish there too. But this space of time, whether full or devoid of the experiences you think you should be having is where the magic is. Be bold and sink into it. Be courageous and stay on this road. It’s leading you to great and mighty things.
Where does the road take you?
